#22 – Raquel Virgínia

Raquel Virgínia nasceu em São Paulo e durante a vida morou em vários bairros, o que a fez sentir-se cigana da própria cidade. Cantora e compositora no grupo “As Bahias e a Cozinha Mineira”, Raquel estudou história na USP, um ambiente majoritariamente branco, onde ela pode ter, a partir de uma greve feita por funcionárias terceirizadas, uma dimensão do projeto racista instaurado no Brasil. Raquel reafirma questões em torno de ser uma mulher negra e trans, enfatiza a importância de fazer parte de um movimento e como isso interfere em sua forma de ver o mundo.

Raquel Virginia was born in São Paulo and during her life, lived in several neighborhoods, which made her feel like a nomad of the city itself. A singer and songwriter in the band Bahias e a Cozinha Mineira, Raquel studied history at USP, a mostly white environment, where she perceived the dimension of the racist project established in Brazil, after she witnessed a strike by outsourced workers. Raquel reaffirms issues surrounding being a black, trans woman; she emphasizes the importance of being part of a movement and explains how it interferes with her way of seeing the world.
